Overview

Grand Sky Restaurant, nestled in the bustling heart of Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, stands as a vibrant testament to Asian street food culture with a contemporary edge. This spot is a flavorful oasis, where the smoky aroma of BBQ chicken wings and freshly grilled skewers draws both locals and tourists alike. Its location amid the city’s vibrant nightlife makes it a natural stop for those seeking authentic Malaysian and broader Asian flavors without straying too far from urban excitement.

The restaurant’s menu highlights are a curated journey through popular Malaysian and Asian staples—the BBQ Stingray, Fried Oyster Omelette, and Mamak Mee Goreng each bring their distinct regional flair. The oyster omelette, in particular, has won praise for its delicate, lightly crisped starch base paired with juicy oysters, a dish that captures the essence of local expertise and technique. Meanwhile, the satay selection—chicken, beef, and even mutton—showcases thoughtful marinades, like the hint of lemongrass in the chicken, presenting layers of fragrance and depth.

Grand Sky balances its bustling street food vibe with a comfortable, air-conditioned interior, offering a welcome retreat from the typically crowded Jalan Alor nights. The space is relaxed yet attentive, with staff striking the right balance between friendly service and unobtrusive presence. This setup appeals especially to visitors wanting an authentic Malay dining experience with some modern comforts, as well as locals looking for a reliable, no-fuss meal in a lively atmosphere.

Several diners appreciate the honesty and freshness the restaurant brings to its ingredients, such as the clams served with ginger and garlic—a particular favorite with repeat guests. Their ability to source fresh seafood when possible reflects a dedication to quality that resonates with discerning palates. The quick service and generous portions also enhance the value, making it a perfect spot for larger groups or families eager to explore rich, bold flavors without delay.

While some local reviewers note that the offerings may lean slightly toward a tourist-friendly palate, this does not detract from Grand Sky’s charm. Instead, it positions the restaurant as an accessible entry point for newcomers eager to explore the complexity of Malaysian street cuisine in a setting less chaotic than the main street. Paired with chilled Tiger beers—a refreshing companion to the spice and smokiness—dining here becomes an immersive sensory experience.

In essence, Grand Sky Restaurant is more than a meal; it’s a gateway into Kuala Lumpur’s culinary soul. Its robust array of BBQ delights, noodle dishes, and seafood specialties combined with friendly service and a strategic location make it a worthwhile destination for those craving a genuine taste of Malaysia’s diverse flavors in a welcoming and vibrant environment.

Okay, so, being a local, I gotta say, this place isn't my top pick. The food isn'tamazingcompared to other spots around here. But, I think they might have tweaked their recipes to appeal to tourists. If you're visiting Malaysia for the first time, hey, why not give it a shot! Definitely try the fried rice, BBQ chicken wings, fried stingray, and grab a beer while you're at it!

They have air conditioned sitting inside and we love that this is not crazy packed during Sat night. A reprieve from the madness in the Main Street. Staff is not too pushy as well. Pleasantly surprised that the food was very good. The top in our list is oyster omelette. Very impressed by how thin and crisp the starch omelette is. Oysters are plenty and juicy as well. Next was the satay. The chicken satay has lemon grass in its marinate, a nice fragrance to the meat. Beef satay is cooked just right. They have mutton satay but we didn’t order. The vegetable was a little “old” and doesn’t have the same texture as more tender versions. BBQ chicken wings are great too. We were missing lime to squeeze juice onto the chicken but we did taste a hint of lime.

I really like this restaurant and been here many times before. They are always very friendly and welcoming and it’s great to sit here, have a beer and watch the people go by. Very often I eat the Lala Clams here, mostly the ones with ginger and garlic. Normally they are frozen and they don’t hide that, in fact they are very honest about it. The waiter who served me knows I always eat the clams and told me that this evening they’ve had fresh clams. I was so excited to hear that the clams on the menu were fresh from the market today. Your attention to detail and the way you shared it with me really made the meal special and very enjoyable. The best Clams I’ve ever had! Thanks for your great service and for making my evening very enjoyable. I’ll definitely be back soon!

2nd time in KL and ate here almost every evening. The crab with black pepper is to die for. Sesame chicken and black pepper chicken, as well, among other dishes. Everything we ordered came very fast, was very tasty and in big portions. Staff is friendly and they know when to stop you if you get too enthusiastic and order way too much food.

Grand Sky Restaurant along Jalan Alor offers a vibrant and satisfying dining experience, perfect for those craving bold flavors in a lively street food setting. We sampled a variety of dishes, and each brought something unique to the table. The clams with ginger and spring onions were light and aromatic. The Hokkien Mee was hearty and satisfying, tossed in a rich soy-based sauce with slices of meat and vegetables. The prawns stir-fried in spicy sauce was yummy as well.

Yummy, Affordable, and Huge “Small” Portions! We came here expecting the small size to be, well, small…. but it turned out to be a full-sized portion! It was even big enough for two of us to share. We had the Beef Kwetiau Noodles, and they were absolutely delicious! The drinks were also great value and not pricey at all. We were really impressed with the generous portions and the affordable prices. Highly recommend!

We ate at this place twice during our stay, and the food was very good both times. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is very kind and welcoming, which made the overall experience pleasant. Unfortunately, the downside was that on two separate occasions we found a hair in our food, which was quite disappointing. We hope the restaurant can improve in this area, as the food and service themselves are really worth recommending.

At first I wasn't sure I wanted to eat here given that it's in a very touristy spot, but decided to give it a shot. The food was really delicious. The service was excellent and fast. The prices are competitive. I really loved the food and certainly do recommended this place. I look forward to eating there again next time I am in KL.
